Classical Civilization

Classical Civilization Majors (code BA5214)

  1. Greek or Latin sequence through 213.
  2. A minimum of five courses (20 hrs) from 200 level CLAS/CLAR courses, and/or 300-400 level LAT/GK courses (CLAS 227 not eligible). Of the 20 hours, 12 must be from 3 of the following courses:
  3. A minimum of four courses (16 hrs) from 300-400 level CLAS, CLAR, LAT and/or GK courses.
  4. Two courses (8-10 hrs) from extradepartmental courses approved in consultation with a Classics faculty advisor in connection with the student’s approved course of study.
  5. Senior Research Project (4 hrs).

Classical Civilization Minors (code OR5214)

No knowledge of the Greek or Latin languages is required for the revised Classical Civilization minor.

  1. Four courses (16 hrs) from 200 level CLAR and CLAS coursework (CLAS 227 not eligible) and/or 200 level LAT or GK, including one of the following courses in Greek culture:

    and one of the following courses in Roman culture:

  2. 300- and 400-level CLAS, CLAR, GK, and/or LAT courses. No knowledge of the Greek or Latin languages is required for the Classical Civilization minor, but upper-level classical language courses can count toward the minor.
